EMMA allows you attribute all your Adwords campaigns conversions.
Before start, please, review the following points:
- Sending the device advertising identifier (IDFA/AAID) through our EMMA SDK is necessary for any Adwords campaign attribution. Visit our integration guides to obtain more info about it.
- Go to My Account to verify iOS BUNDLE ID and Android GOOGLEPLAY ID fields are not empty.
- The documentation below about conversion flags is written to be used with the original Adwords UI. If your Adwords account is working with the new BETA UI version you could change it to the original one.

Important
As Adwords has announced, from September 17th 2018 onwards the re-engagement campaign option will be not longer available and from October 1st the active campaigns will be stopped automatically.
iOS Google Adwords tracking
In order to track iOS Google Adwords campaigns follow these steps:
1. Login to your Google Adwords account and select Tools > Conversions
2. Click to add a new conversion (+ Conversion)
3. Select App conversion > First open and in-app actions and the platform iOS
4. Add the name and the conversion value. Save and continue:
5. Select "Set up server-to-server conversion feed" as the tracking method. Copy the CONVERSION_ID and LABEL_ID and send this info with the BUNDLE ID (com.example.myapp) to support@emma.io. Click on Done to save the changes.
6. An email from our expert team will be sent to you with the Postback URL that should be added in the conversion set up.
Edit the Postback URL and introduce the one we sent you. The URL will have this structure but with a different app_id at the end.

7. Create your first Adwords campaign by selecting one of the following formats:
iOS Adwords Universal App Campaign
Universal App campaigns allow you to promote your iOS app through different Adwords channels: Search, Youtube and Display in an unique set up.
EMMA can attribute all conversions coming from these campaign types. To do so:
1. If you haven't already done so, you have to register your first conversion tag in the Adwords panel.
2. Create your first Universal app campaign for iOS by selecting this mode in the drop-down:
3. Complete all the information that Google requires and publish your campaign. Remember that in this type of campaign it is not possible to use tracking templates, so the final URL must always be the Appstore URL.
When the first conversion is attributed, the campaign will be automatically created in the EMMA Apptracker with the breakdown of the conversion origin:

iOS Adwords Search
1. Create a new campaign in the EMMA AppTracker and configure the iOS and Web URL as the download url of your app in Appstore. You have to leave the Android and Windows Phone URL empty. You must also generate a source to obtain obtener the redirect, selecting the CUSTOM provider.
2. Create your first Adwords Search campaign for iOS by selecting this mode in the drop-down:
3. Complete all the information that Google requires and configure the tracking template in Settings> Additional Settings > Campaign URL options:
To do that you must introduce this url in the tracking template:

And you have to add a personal parameter with the name "entw" and the value equals to the alphanumeric series of the url generated for the source in EMMA in step 1.
You can use the tracking templates in the campaign or in the ad groups to obtain more detailed information.
IMPORTANT!
Google Adwords can only receive the installs notifications of in-app download campaigns (Display o Universal App Campaing). This means that if your are obtained Mobile Web, Search and/or Search Partners traffic, those installs will be tracked in EMMA but it won't be shown in the Adwords dashboard.
Therefore, although you can see all the conversions in EMMA (coming from all the Adwords campaigns), in your Adwords account you will only see the conversions coming from the previous campaigns.

iOS Adwords Display
1. If you haven't already done so, you have to register your first conversion tag in the Adwords panel.
2.Create a new campaign in the EMMA AppTracker and configure the iOS and Web URL as the download url of your app in Appstore. You have to leave the Android and Windows Phone URL empty. You must also generate a source to obtain the redirect selecting the CUSTOM provider.
3. Create your first Adwords Display campaign for iOS by selecting this mode in the drop-down:

Android Google Adwords tracking

3. Select the Android platform and Installs (first open) as the action you want to supervise:
4. Configure the name and the conversion value. Check the notification URL field, you will fill have to fill it in later. Click on Save and continue:
5. Configure the tracking method by selecting the set up a server-to-server conversion feed option. Copy the CONVERSION_ID and the LABEL_ID and send this information with the BUNDLE ID (com.example.myapp) to support@emma.io. Click on Done.
6. An email from our expert team will be sent to you with the Postback URL that should be added in the conversion set up.

Adwords: In-App event notification
EMMA allows you to send information about the in-app activity of the Adwords users. This allows you to generate the conversion tags in Adwords for the events that happen after the install so you can optimize your campaigns based on this information.
To do so:
1. Login in EMMA and go to My Account and select Configuration > Edit App.
2. Complete your Media Source Settings for iOS and Android. Once you cover them, select Save options in each one and Submit to apply the changes. Copy the postback url for Adwords shown just at the bottom of each box. You must have one for iOS and another for Android:
3. Login in your Adwords account and select Tools> Conversiones
4. Click on Add a new conversion (+ Conversion)
5. Select the type of conversions as the first open, the operative system and App action:
6. Configure you tag name, select your App and add the postback URL that you have previously copied in the My Account section of your EMMA dashboard. Click on Save and continue. Remember that this notification URL is different for each system (iOS/Android):
7. Select the feed server to server option to obtain the ID and the conversion label. Copy them. Add as many events conversions you need to each operative system and keep this ID's to configure them in EMMA.
8. Go back to EMMA, access to the My Account > See events section and configure the conversion tag in the corresponding event:
Once the event is configured with Adwords, it will be marked with the icon:
FAQ's
Can I see my App installs in my Adwords account?
Yes, with our attribution and notification system you can see the conversions on both platforms (EMMA and Adwords).
With the exception of the iOS Search campaigns, in which case you can only see the conversions in EMMA.

How can I test my Adwords configuration?
Google Adwords does not allow you to test the configuration in a test environment, so our recommendation is to launch a test campaign with a limit budget to verify if the first installs are registering correctly in EMMA.
I have discrepancies between EMMA and Adwords
Google could have a delay of 72 hours in processing the tracking of 3rd party notifications so, sometimes, the discrepancy may be related to this issue. It is usually to have between a 10 and 20% of discrepancies between Google and the 3rd party tracker.
Also you have to keep in mind that EMMA measures all the Adwords campaign types while in Adwords only in-app download campaigns (Display) will be displayed.
What level of breakdown can I see in the EMMA Apptracker about Adwords campaigns?
According to the Adwords campaign you want to review, in our Apptracker you will find different information according to the type of the campaign:
- Google Search: in te EMMA Apptracker you can always find the conversions itemized by keyword when they don't come from a Universal App campaign.
- Google Display: in the EMMA Apptracker you can find a cumulative of all the campaigns associated with this modality.
- Youtube Trueview: in the EMMA Apptracker you can find a cumulative of all the campaigns associated with this modality.
- Universal App Campaign: in the EMMA Apptracker you will find this conversions itemized by the format to which they have been attributed (Search, Search Partner, Display o Youtube). You can't find the breakdown by the keywords because this campaign type doesn't send this information to our platform. If Adwords send us the information about the conversion format of the conversions attributed, they will appear under the "Adwords App Promotion" modality.
