How to create a communication

Login in EMMA and go to Communication > Messaging to create your messaging campaign.

Select the green button +New message to start creating your campaign and follow these points:

1. Select the type of your campaign

Choose the communication format you want to use in your campaign:

To know all the formats in detail, you can visit our article about the diferents communication types you can choose with EMMA.

Once you select the type, click on the Continue button to go on with the programming.

2. Define the properties of the format

Fill the required data to identify your campaign:

Campaign name: name of the campaign.
Campaing type: you can choose if you will managed manually your campaign or it will be automated through EMMA Rules:

  • Classic manual campaign: you will managed your campaign manually. You have to establish a start and end dates in the configuration.

If you configured a campaign as automatic campaign for rules, in the campaign summary, it will be shown with the status Ready until it will be assigned to a rule. When the rule will be linked, the campaign change to Active status.

- Interaction url: the URL that you want to redirect the users when they click on the communication. It can be a website or a specific section of your app (with a deeplink).
- Frecuency: frecuency of the campaign. recuencia de la campaña. Number of times that the campaign will be shown to each user.
- Imagen: introduce the image you want to show in your communication.

- Message: in those formats in which the message is required (strip, coupon and native ad), you have to introduce the text you want to show in the communication. Use our text replacement engine to insert the individual value of the tags attributed to your users. To do so:

  • Insert the tags you want to use by displaying the "Insert a tag" option:
  • MESSAGE_1.png

  •  The red highlighted tags are those attributes for which there is no user with that property:
  • MESSAGE_2.png

  • The black highlighted tags are those attributed for which there are users with that property:
  • MESSAGE_3.png

  • The tag list depends on the properties that your app sends to EMMA. Learn how to send tags through our iOS and Android SDK.
  • If there are users who haven't assigned any property to one tag and they receive a communication with a text composed with this tag, they will only see the text without variables:
  • MESSAGE_5.png

Visit our article about the different  types of message to know the specific properties of each communication.

3. Set your target

To select your target you can use a created segment or you can create a new segment. If you don't know how to create it, visit our article about EMMA Behavior Explore where you can find how to create a new segment and how to apply the filters you want.

Once you select the filter, click on Refresh to update the number of users that will be impacted.

Below the filter you will see a yellow box which includes the number of users you will impact and the total.

4. Schedule your message

If you choose the  Classic manual campaign schule your campaign, you must indicate the day and hour you want to show it.

Start date: date when the campaign will start.

End date: date when the campaign will end.

You can select the communication shown timing. If you select "Yes" in the Show all day? option, the communication will be displayed all day; but if you select "No", the communication will only appear in a certain time. You can define the time slot by moving the green bar:

IMPORTANT: you must keep in mind that the start and the end date of the campaign might be affected by the shown timing. You can have these situations:

- If the campaign starts when the shown time has already passed, the communication will not be shown until the next day in the corresponding time.

- If the campaign ends at a previous hour of the shown time, the communication will not be shown that day.

- If the start or the end of the campaign doesn't coincide with the whole shown time, but it coincides partially, the communication will be shown during the coinciding time.

You can select the number of impacts, the times the campaign will be shown to the user, in three periods:

  • Impacts per day.
  • Impacts per week.
  • Impacts per month.

If you select a limit, once the campaign is launched, the user will not be able to see more than the times that were defined. But this value can be changed later even if the campaign is active. For example, if the weekly limit is edited, going from 2 to 5, and the user had already seen the campaign twice that week, he will be able to see it 3 times more until completing the new limit that had been set.

Select Continue to follow programming, Back to go to the previous configuration, Cancel to delete the campaign or Save a Draft if you want to keep it in draft.

5. Check your message and confirm

Check that all the data are correct and that everything is as you scheduled.

If everything is correct, select Submit and the communication will be programmed. Otherwise you can select Back to go back to the previous step, Cancel to delete the campaign or Save to Draft if you want to save it in draft.
